Don’t run from problems. Tell them you don’t have the money and that you want to work out a payment arrangement. They’ll get it back three times the amount you owe them if they take you to court. They will not go to the police! However, they could, if they wanted, take you to court and get a court to order you to pay and if you refuse that, then, maybe, will you go to jail.
Just be straight with creditors and they will likely work with you. But be firm and honest (and not embarrassed) about how much you can actually afford and they will give that to you. You may be able to save damaging your credibility, on your terms.
You will not go to jail. Your loan is just that, a loan and it is civil not criminal if you do not pay it. They will report you to a collection company to recover the funds but they cannot file criminal charges against you.
i believe they will hound you for a while. then they send you to collections. or they can report you to the county you live in and they can press charges… they view that as stealing.
They have your Social Security # so they can place a Judgement on your credit for the loan amount and they will began to send you naaty letters or possibly send you to a Collection agency.

They will put you in collections. Just like any bill you don’t pay.
